Advancements in the Develop ment of Drainage Maps from Aerial Photographs

چکیده

This paper reports the progress as well as the improvement in the methods being used in the development of drainage maps of fine detail from aerial photographs of the several counties of Indiana. This drainage mapping, which is about 25 percent complete, is a part of the current highway research program at Purdue University; it is conducted by the State Highway Commission of Indiana and the Joint Highway Research Project (a cooperative endeavor financed by the State Highway Commission of Indiana and administered by Purdue University). The field of civil engineering has been broadened in scope by the introduction of airphoto interpretation. Superperformance is de manded of our highways, railroads, power lines, and other transporta tion agencies. There is a growing need for detailed drainage maps for use in the location, design, and construction of highway, airport, public-health, and flood-control projects. Airphotos can be employed in the construction of detailed drainage maps. Such maps can be used by both technically trained and untrained personnel. The airphotos used in making these drainage maps were taken in 1937-1943 in connection with the United States Department of Agri culture map program. The prints were obtained from the Agricultural Adjustment Administration along with the photographs of uncontrolled mosaics known as county index sheets. Approximately 25,000 prints were required for complete stereo-coverage of the state (5).*

Preparation of Engineering Soils and Drainage Survey Strip Maps from Aerial Photographs

This paper reports the procedure for preparing engineering soil and drainage strip maps of proposed highways from aerial photographs. These maps are prepared from uncorrected aerial photographs at a scale of approximately three inches to the mile. An approximate scale is used, since ground control in conjunction with rectified airphotos would greatly increase the cost of preparing the strip map...

The Use of Aerial Photos in Engineering Planning

The planning of any engineering project requires information on land use, topography, soils, drainage, transportation, urban de velopment, and many other factors before actual location and design can be accomplished or field surveys undertaken. To obtain this preliminary information engineers surveyors, and planning com missions need maps. They need planimetric maps showing land use, or they ...

Land use changes detection and spatial distribution using digital and satellite data, case study: Farim drainage basin, Northern of Iran

Land use change may influence many natural phenomena and ecological processes, including runoff, soil erosion, sedimentation and soil conditions. Decreasing of forest area in the North of Iran is one of the critical problems in recent years. The aims of this study are to detect land use changes between 1967 to 2002 using satellite images of Land Sat 7 ETM+ (2002), aerial photos and digital topo...

مقایسه کارایی عکس های هوایی و باندهای پانکروماتیک +ETM و IRS-P6 در تعیین مرفولوژی تپه های ماسه ای

In this survey, the performance of aerial photographs and satellite imagery in determining sand dunes morphology was studied in the Erg of Gavkhouni international wetland located in the southeast part of Isfahan province. Aerial photographs (scale:1:20000) and the panchromatic bands of ETM+ and IRS-P6 sensor were acquired and geometrically corrected using topographic map of the region (scale:1:...
